Christian David Kpondehou, known as “The African Samurai,” is originally from the Republic of Benin and has been living in Japan since 2017. He serves as Head of the Africa Business Promotion Office at Pasona Future Gateway, Inc., and founded the Africa Diaspora Network Japan (ADNJ) to bring together African and Japanese people, entrepreneurs, and institutions through business, cultural exchange, and youth empowerment. His Japan journey began on Awaji Island, through the Pasona Awaji Youth Federation (Pasona AYF).
Over the years, his work connecting Africa and Japan has taken him to the international stage. In 2022, he was invited by the White House to participate in the US–Africa Leaders Summit. Since 2024, he has co-chaired Youth Agenda 2055, a strategic policy framework formally presented to Japan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), where he was personally named and commended by former Prime Minister Ishiba in his closing remarks at the plenary session.
In 2025, he co-founded and led PANAF’ – African Dining Hall at the World Expo 2025 Osaka. Over just six months, the venue welcomed over 430,000 visitors and served more than 346,000 meals, setting a new benchmark as the most successful Africa-focused restaurant in World Expo history. That same year, he was named to the BPIA Power 50 List by Black Professionals in International Affairs, recognizing 50 global leaders of the African diaspora driving impact across industries.
